Yesterday, on March 12th 2013, even the snow couldn’t stop people from coming to ParisIdeas for the second edition.

4 projects have been shown by motivated speaker.

First of all, Chloé Oternaud and Noémie introduced Melusyn, their software dedicated to filming management. Currently, they are 4 young designers and business man working at Le Camping, on the product first version. This multi-device platform is a solution for managing the whole filming process. It help to perceive the storyboard look, show shot list and share planning with all participant. You can learn more about this project on the web site : http://melusyn.com/

Then, Romain Boyer presented Carbonzs. Romain Boyer is an automobile hobbyist. He has a master degree in web development and loves the green movement. To fight rapid obscolescence of cars, he decided to create a web site gathering videos, an active community and partnerships with spare parts companies. In the future, he wants to use augmented reality to provide better tutorials and help people become independant for their car maintenance. The website is fairly new and Romain is looking for designers and developers. http://carbonzs.fr/

After that, Sophie Marie showed us an application created by Gobelins student. Pix My Street is a game inspired by street art and pixel art, using augmented reality. You can draw your own Pix and tag it in the street. But when the night comes, people can erase your work and tag other Pix. You have to protect them and create new ones to become a Street Art King ! http://www.pixmystreet.com/

Pantéa Salmassi has touched ParisIdeas member’s yesterday, when she revealed her Anti-Narkissos project. Anti-Narkisso is a thought about narcissism and disobedience. It’s an interactive miror with artificial intelligence that does not always reflect the truth. Sometimes it’s an old truth or a truth that you would never see. You can discover this project on vimeo : https://vimeo.com/46303638

At the end, Sébastien Sacard introduced his own meet-up group composed of designers and product managers. Learn more and join the group on meetup.com:

http://www.meetup.com/Paris-Web-Product-Management/events/103659872/

I would like to thank everyone for coming, despite the terrible weather. For the others, see you at the next ParisIdeas event!

The Joshfire Factory?

The Joshfire Factory is the first Saas platform that allows the generation of beautiful multi device apps within minutes.

Content publishers’ and service providers’ life has been dramatically complicated since the proliferation of mobiles, tablets and connected TVs. Indeed, they spend every year a lot of energy to adapt their services to new devices. The Joshfire Factory radically simplifies this approach by streamlining and industrializing app development process for mobile, tablet, connected TV and future electronic devices. The approach proposed by the Joshfire Factory is not to develop unique applications for each technological environment but to adopt open and standard technologies (HTML5 and JavaScript) and to minimize specific developments.

The final release of the Joshfire Factory

After a beta launch last year, the Joshfire Factory is now released officially with a brand new interface and set of features. The new version has been repackaged and radically simplified as a wizard for multi device app generation. No need of technical or design skills, you can now generate your apps for iOS, Android, Windows 8 and Samsung within minutes.

The Joshfire Factory is also an extensive platform that fits organizations needs for the industrialization of app development and deployment.

Is the Joshfire Factory for me? And who exactly is the typical factory user?

The beauty of the Joshfire Factory community comes from its diversity. We have radically different needs and constraints but find solutions with the platform. We use the Joshfire Factory to generate mobile, tablet, desktop and TV content apps as we did with WordPress or Drupal for websites. If you are unsure if the Joshfire Factory is made for you, read this page detailing user scenarios

The Joshfire Factory is the first Saas platform that allows the generation of beautiful apps within minutes, using existing content for iOS, Android, Windows 8, Samsung and web devices. It’s much more flexible and less expensive than any freelance or agency service. And the result is much higher quality than any app generation system. You don’t believe it? Try freely the Joshfire Factory online now!

Key Features of the new release

New and clearer interface

The interface of the Factory has been entirely redesigned. Edit your app one device at a time, using the menu on the left to switch from one device to the other. Simplified pages help you focus on what really matters for your app. After deploy, clear instructions explain what to do next.

Fewer templates, higher quality

We chose to focus on fewer templates that are fully compatible with all of the Factory’s data-sources and add-ons. Some original templates have been retired until we make sure they properly integrate with the Factory.

New content management page

All content management features have been centralized in one page to let you add, configure and layout your content easily.

Single content data sources

We created a new kind of data-source that returns a single item (as opposed to a list of items). Use these data-sources to create tabs in your application that display only one item : a selected video, an uploaded image, a page containing free text or a contact page.

Samsung TV support

We put a lot of effort to support Samsung Smart TVs. The Factory now features dedicated deployment settings for this device and the Sleek template is fully compatible with Samsung Smart TVs 2011 and 2012.

Streamlined process and progress bar

The application creation process has been linearized and is now done step by step. We added a progress bar at the top of the interface that lets you know the number of steps left until the deploy of your application.

Clearer pricing

There are now two ways to use the Factory: personal and pro plans. Personal lets you pick items and pay only for what you use. Pro plans are dedicated to organizations and resellers who would like to use the Factory in their custom app creation process. Read more on the pricing page.

Smoothie template enhancements

The Smoothie template is now compatible with all of our data-sources.

Retina support for Sleek template

All the graphical assets of our beloved Sleek template have been enhanced to support retina devices.

After hosting the Paris Hackers meetups, that gather passionate hackers every two months, to discuss and exchange about their knowledge and experience, Joshfire is proud to organize and host the first Paris Embedded meetup, on Tuesday November 13th.

Until relatively recently there existed a strong boundary between software and hardware development : costs, accessibility of tools, very different skills to master. The development boards were expensive and difficult to use without solid expertise, and community was scattered between specific platforms.

The last few years have radically changed the game, principally thanks to two factors.

The Arduino platform is obviously the most visible one. It allowed different kind of people, without specific expertise on embedded programming or electronics, to play with intelligent and connected objects. This platform has heavily been used at Joshfire for several objects. However, its computing power restricts its use to simple actions, or to interfacing with specific hardware that does the real job.

The second element is the emerging of low power processors, mainly ARM, and of low-cost development boards (Rasbperri Pi, Beaglebone, …). The OSes running on them are closer and closer to the ones developers are uses to : an “embedded” Linux system running on those is now almost a “regular” system. This enables developers to access the wide world of existing softwares and libraries without trouble, and low-level programming is less and less of a need. At Joshfire we use this kind of boards for more complex projects, like the NoiseBox, or the evolutions of the Mirror.

Seing all these changes and following discussion with fellow hackers in events, we thought a meetup would be great : to have a place to meet, to present projects, to talk about technical stuff we have been confronted to, talk about the way we made the step from prototype to production, present the latest or unknown development board.

Register here if you’re interested !
